Weekend Coffee 4.7

I walk in a little late. We agreed to meet at a little hole in the wall coffee shop that we both like. It is cute and the coffee is excellent – the best in the city. It also offers a nice sitting area, perfect for catching up. The sun warms our seats in the otherwise slightly cool room.

I splurge a bit and get my favorite cup of coffee, which costs a little more in both coin and calories. I sit down in the cozy heated chair and sigh a blissful sigh. It is the little things that make the best memories.

I start by apologizing for not only being late, but also a little incommunicado. One area of business has been a bit busy because of the spring season, so some of my other lines of business and hobbies have suffered, as well as keeping in touch with friends. Sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

After brushing off my apology you ask about my running status. It is usually a go-to conversation topic, that and what books I’ve read lately. I tell you I ran 5 miles twice one week. I am pretty proud of this accomplishment since anything over 3 miles seemed so daunting previously. It was a long time ago that I ran a half marathon (13.1 miles) and even I often forget I participated in that race. I didn’t run the entire race, but probably ran about half of the half. I ran more than 5 miles that race, but since then three is my max – until now. Now I’m eyeing a 10k in my future.

When you ask about the books I’ve read, I surprise you with my answer. I haven’t read anything because I am so exhausted. The only time I am able to read is prior to sleep and these days I can’t even reach for a book before my eyes are closed. It is a sad state of affairs for a book nerd such as myself.

It seems like we just sit down when it is time to leave. Time flies and all that. I promise to be in touch. Not in the empty promise kind of way we all say too much, but really be in touch. On a regular basis. Some might even say on a schedule.

Until next time…

  1. Surprisingly I first heard of warm seats this week. Something else new. Technology is moving so fast it is hard to keep up. Running is good exercise so be glad you can do it. It 80 degrees Fahrenheit this afternoon and still quite warm out tonight.

  2. Thanks for the coffee and introducing me to warmed seats. I’ve never experienced such a thing. Congratulations on your 5 miles and your commitment. I’ll look forward to hearing you have run 10. Have a great week.
