You are awake. It is the middle of the night. There is really only one thing you can do.
Eat pancakes.
Especially if those pancakes happen to be pumpkin.
As the line from Dazed and Confused says, “Nothing like piling on old pancakes and syrup after a night of beer drinking.”
I quote this line a lot because it is so great. It is great because we all do it. When the party ended or the bar closed and we just weren’t quite ready to go home, the perfect solution was eating breakfast. It was morning after all. What else do you do in the morning?
Though I was usually the designated driver, I could always be counted on for a stop at the all night diner to pile on the old pancakes and syrup. Even without the beer drinking the pancakes are always better in the middle of the night.
The memories made during those early morning breakfast meetings will last a lifetime. (At least for me. Others might not remember the meals as well.) We would solve the problems of the world while we laughed about whatever happened that night. There were no arguments, no fights, just friends, coffee, and pancakes.
Now, I am well past the all night parties, but when I find myself out late at night, I still like to stop for pancakes. I’m sure the reason the pancakes taste so good these days is more about the nostalgia than the actual pancakes, but I still love them.
So, when I find myself awake way too early on a Saturday morning (early as in 3 am), it is no wonder my first thought is to go to the all night diner. I hope I will always find myself at the diner in the middle of the night at least once in a while.
Maybe it will be my fall tradition. I mean, it is pumpkin pancake season.
These look awesome! Thanks for sharing on Meetup Monday!
