Weekend Coffee: Busy Days and Late Nights

A huge cup of coffee sits beside me as I try to stave off the sleepiness that lingers in my eyelids. They so want to close, but I have another busy day ahead. The last in a row of several that caused my current state of sleepiness.

I can’t complain, though. One of those busy days ended in a completely wonderful night.

Would you like a cup of caffeine while I tell you about it?

It started as a basic happy hour. One that I drink water while everyone else drinks beer or wine. We had great conversations and laughed a lot. Usually these happy hours only last a couple hours. I planned to be home early enough to publish a new blog post.

Instead, I didn’t get home until much, much later.

We met at one of my fellow happy hourer’s apartment. We probably would have ended the happy hour after a couple of hours of laughter and drinking (me still with my water), but then we went outside to the patio. It was such a nice evening that our conversation continued. We just couldn’t part with the beauty of the evening. It was one of those moments that doesn’t come around often now that we are older. Back in the younger days, they happened all the time.

I don’t see these people very often. Not anymore. There was a time when we saw each other all the time. But, things change, priorities shift, timing doesn’t work. There are a million reasons we don’t see each other anymore, but none of them stop our friendship.

We talked until three in the morning. We didn’t plan it and didn’t even realize the time was passing so quickly. It organically happened. A wonderful unplanned night of laughter and fun.

Until next time…
